About Niacin Supplements
Niacin is a vitamin that is also known as nicotinic acid and is a component of the vitamin B complex, it is a water-soluble powder that is stable to heat, acid, and alkali. Animals and human are capable of synthesizing niacin in varying degrees from the amino acid tryptophan. Niacin can be found on different food sources such as yeasts, wheat germ, and meats, particularly organ meats, these are all rich sources of vitamin B. There are also food that are relatively poor sources of niacin but contain enormous amount of tryptophan. Niacin deficiency which is called pellagra can be treated with the use of niacin supplement.
This disease is particularly common among poor people whose diet is mostly corn. Niacin supplement is used to help in lowering cholesterol in the body and it targets HDL, LDL and triglycerides.Niacin is good for treating high LDL or bad cholesterol level since it increases the level of HDL or good cholesterol in your body system. This will also regulate your triglycerides level which is good for your body since you are at risk of developing pancreatitis if your triglycerides level are too high. Pancreatitis is a painful condition that can cause inflammation of the pancreas that can lead to other serious health problems. There are three different forms of niacin, the immediate release, sustained release and extended release. These three forms of niacin are all intended to lower the cholesterol level in the body they only differ by the rate when the nicotinic acid id released into your system.
The first form is the Immediate Release Nicotinic Acid it is a fast release nicotinic acid and it is commonly associated with niacin induced side effects such as flushing, warmth and itching. The second form of niacin is the sustained release or SR nicotinic acid which also known as "timed release" nicotinic acid. This form of nicotinic acid is designed to release nicotinic acid over a of time into your body you might still experience some of the niacin induced side effects but they are not as bad as the side effects from the immediate release. While this form of niacin can lower the severity of the side effects, individuals taking the sustained release niacin had an increased risk of liver toxicity which is rarely seen in using the immediate release and extended release form. The third form of niacin is the extended release or ER nicotinic acid.
With this form the release of nicotinic acid in the body is a little slower than that of the immediate release form but faster than that of the sustained release form so this is somehow in between the two forms of niacin. Side effects still exist but are not as severe as the immediate form. One thing good about the extended release is that there is no problem with toxicity. Niacin may interact with other medicine so it is advised that you consult your doctor if you are under medication. Niacin Vitamin supplement may interact with aspirin, medicines for blood pressure, medicine for chest pain or medicine for heart disease, nitroglycerin, nutritional supplements that contains nicotinamide and medicines for cholesterol or triglycerides. So it is always best that you seek your doctor's advice before using niacin supplement to avoid unhealthy reaction of the body.
Not everybody can make a promise of staying away from sumptuous foods that happen to be rich in cholesterol. I guess no one has the right to blame them because those kinds of food make people happy. On the other hand, the same people who are fond of abusing themselves by eating delicious but unhealthy food should also blame no one else when they start to suffer from heart diseases due this kind of diet. However, it is not yet too late for them to prevent health problems.
Are you one of those people who either abuse your good health or who innocently do not know anything about unhealthy diets? Fortunately for you there are still a lot of methods which you can use to lower your cholesterol levels. You could either take supplements that are proven to be safe and effective in combating too much cholesterol in your blood or you could embrace a healthier way of living by eating natural foods regularly that could also effectively control your cholesterol levels.
It has been mentioned that niacin can prevent too much cholesterol content in your blood, thus preventing the risk of life threatening heart diseases such as heart attacks. For years, niacin, which is also called vitamin B3, has been in the list of the most effective treatments against cholesterol. Your blood has LDL (or low density lipoprotein) cholesterol, HDL (or high density lipoprotein) cholesterol, and triglyceride or simply fats. It is the job of niacin to reduce the level of LDL and increase HDL in the blood.
However, niacin cholesterol procedure does not appeal to some physicians. This is because of the undesirable side-effects of niacin to the body. Some people may possibly experience heart palpitations, facial flushing, body itching, and stomach upset. However there are some experts who say that these side effects would disappear after a week. They say that by that time, your system would have already adjusted to the new foreign substance that enters your body.
They say that you just need to take the right dose and continue using certain forms of niacin to avoid other problems.
Some doctors might suggest you to have a niacin cholesterol supplement to lower down your LDL while increasing your HDL cholesterol. You have to be aware of the side-effects and tell him or her if you have other health concerns so that he or she would also know if niacin is going to be safe for you. For instance if you are diabetic you are not advised to take niacin because of the effect on your blood sugar.
Besides the niacin supplements, you can acquire niacin by modifying your diet. Niacin is found in fish, lean meats, dairy products, poultry, eggs, nuts and cereals. With diet, you can improve your cholesterol levels and at the same time ensure that you are taking safe amounts of niacin.
Moreover, you owe it to yourself to investigate and find out if there are any other natural products that can help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels. Look for products that do not have harmful side effects. Check if they have been clinically tested by multiple leading research institutions and check up medical journals.
